Panama is one of those cities in the world that is known for its variable names over the centuries. The word Panama means ‘an abundance of fish’ according to the natives of the Indian language.

Some historians call the city of Panama ‘the movable city’ because it has relocated a number of times in the past 300 years. When the first Spanish governor arrived on the isthmus, he moved the capital from Acla on the Caribbean Sea and founded the city of Panama that was located on the improved and drier Pacific Coast. Today, only the photogenic ruins remain in the old Panama City.  These ruins are a popular touristic spot and remain as a rich part of Panama´s culture.

Panama is also known for its Canal and because it is so near to the Canal it is also known as the ‘The Crossroads of the World’.
